It already looks like Nate Ament won't be playing a significant role for the Milwaukee Bucks this year, but their next move could essentially guarantee it. Per HoopsHype's Michael Scotto, the Bucks have explored taking in Zeke Nnaji in a Peyton Watson sign-and-trade. Adding two more forwards to this roster would drop Ament a few spots down the depth chart.
Ament needs time, and Bucks could give it to him
When the Milwaukee Bucks drafted Ament 13th overall in this past draft, the general consensus was that he wouldn't play a prominent role from day one. At 19 years old, Ament is still raw and will need to develop before he earns steady time. Currently, it looks like he could spend significant time down in the G League this coming season while occasionally suiting up for the Bucks.
If the Bucks beef up the depth chart with two more forwards, though, Ament could receive even more time with the Wisconsin Herd to work on his game. It wouldn't be the worst thing, giving the youngster a clear runway to develop his skills and get as many live reps as possible. It could be the best thing for his growth as he braces for the NBA waters.
Bucks' Peyton Watson chase is ongoing
The Milwaukee Bucks want to win now; all of their moves this summer make that clear. Adding both Watson and Nnaji would help them in that quest while also allowing Ament precious time to develop. They would be knocking out two birds with one stone if they can pry both of these forwards from the Denver Nuggets.
Obviously, Watson would be the prize, giving them a legitimate starting option who fits seamlessly in this new youth-driven timeline. Nnaji would be a salary dump, as the Nuggets would rid themselves of the final years of his contract, but even he is still just 25 and would give the Milwaukee Bucks decent depth at the four spot.
If the Bucks have a roster weak point, it is the power forward spot. Currently, the group consists of Ament, Kyle Kuzma, Pete Nance, and Bogoljub Markovic. Adding Watson and Nnaji into the fold has the potential to patch up this weak spot. There is no telling if the Milwaukee Bucks will get a deal over the finish line, but them showing a willingness to take in Nnaji shows real desire.
