Bucks can steal Heat's mantle after depriving them of Giannis Antetokounmpo

The Bucks can be the new play-in team that no one wants to see coming.

The Miami Heat were a rumored trade destination for Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, but ultimately did not offer enough to entice Milwaukee's front office. Not only did the Bucks keep Giannis away from the Heat, but they could also steal the Heat's title as a sneaky play-in team.

For the first time in franchise history, the Bucks could find themselves in the Play-In Tournament and prove to be a formidable postseason threat out of it.

Can the Bucks be the new play-in threats of the East?

The Play-In Tournament has been dominated throughout its history in the Eastern Conference by the Heat. They've found themselves between the seven and 10 seeds multiple times since 2021, and even made a Finals run from that position in 2023. But now, the Heat lack the same upside to contend against the East's top teams, while the Bucks are showing revived signs of life late in the season.

Milwaukee has now won three in a row and is just a half-game out of the last spot in the Play-In Tournament. They've recently found some sparks from multiple contributors while Giannis has been injured. Assuming he's back to full health by the postseason, the Bucks would still likely have the best player in any series against an Eastern Conference opponent.

The Bucks' recent encouraging stretch, even without Giannis, gives fans more hope for their potential playoff aspirations. Earlier in the season, the Bucks seemed completely devoid of any talent or offensive firepower whenever Giannis missed time or even sat on the bench. But now, their addition of Cam Thomas and the resurgence of Ryan Rollins and Kevin Porter Jr. has breathed life back into the franchise.

With competent depth around Giannis, the Bucks will be a scary first-round foe for any team, especially in the East.

The top seeds in the conference have been solid this season, but none are without their flaws. The Pistons in first position have pulled away as the best regular season team, but still have question marks about their playoff offense and inexperience. Even they would prefer not to see the Bucks with a healthy Giannis coming in the playoffs.

As the postseason gets closer, the Bucks will have more opportunities to establish themselves as a threat out of the play-in tournament. Their next seven games will be a great test - all are against East teams in the play-in or playoff picture. If they can perform well in those contests, especially with Giannis missing them or not yet at full health, the Milwaukee Bucks can strike a lot of fear into possible playoff opponents.

The Heat had their time as the potential play-in bogeyman with Jimmy Butler; now it's time for the Bucks to do the same with Giannis.
