It's not exactly a secret that things aren't going well for the Memphis Grizzlies so far this season. The combination of a poor start with the ongoing drama surrounding Ja Morant and potential locker room tension has led many around the league to wonder whether major changes could be on the table for that organization. If that ends up being the case, it could be the ideal scenario for the Milwaukee Bucks to make a move.
With Damian Lillard out of the picture, the Bucks' future has been at a crossroads. They're still built around Giannis Antetokounmpo, but they're lacking that obvious second star they had before. The backcourt is without that high level and consistent scoring guard that it had for the last couple of seasons, and this team could stand to benefit from the injection of another initiator.
Milwaukee's front office knows what the situation is. Giannis wants to remain a Buck and win another championship for the team that drafted him, but he also wants to be on a high-level squad. Should the organization fail to give him the kind of roster he wants, it's within the realm of possibility that he could be looking elsewhere come next summer.
Morant and Antetokounmpo would be a phenomenal duo
Enter Ja Morant. Bringing 12 on board would get the Bucks another elite playmaker to stabilize the post-Lillard era in Milwaukee. Very few players in the league bring the kind of electric play and rim pressure that Morant does when he's fully locked in. Pairing him with Antetokounmpo would create a positively devastating inside-out attack, and give the Bucks one of the most exciting duos in basketball.
Of course, Morant's recent history is going to make a lot of teams a bit hesitant to bring him on board, even given his obvious talent. We know there are reports of his trade value being low, but perhaps that makes for the exact right conditions for the Bucks to do something. Playing alongside a talent like Giannis could be exactly what Morant needs to re-center his career.
This would obviously be an all-in swing designed to get Milwaukee back to the level of a top-level contender in the East, and to re-define this current era of Bucks basketball. It's a move that would have to be carefully considered, but oftentimes, taking these kinds of risks and striking at the right time can lead to a big payoff.
