It was the lineup involving surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo with shooters that suited the Milwaukee Bucks best this season. In Milwaukee's quest to find more shooting, prospect Gabe Dorsey could potentially follow the same path as AJ Green to earn a spot in the NBA.

The Bucks only have the 47th pick in this year's NBA Draft, leaving them with holes to fill on the roster and having to find value in where they find players. Green has shown that there is a pathway from excelling in the G League as a two-way player to then becoming a key piece of a playoff roster.

Dorsey could follow the foundation set by Green, with the sharpshooting guard set to work out with the Milwaukee Bucks at the Draft Combine.

Gabe Dorsey has a skill that is vital in the NBA

The William & Mary Tribe guard is likely to go undrafted in the draft, but that doesn't mean he can't find his way to an NBA roster. Allowing him to build through the G League as an undrafted free agent would be a smart move for the Milwaukee Bucks, allowing Dorsey to follow the path of Green.

In the 2024-25 season, Dorsey averaged 13.4 points and 3.4 rebounds on shooting splits of .458/.448/.800. His shooting is his strong suit, with him being a 40 percent shooter from deep across his four years of college basketball. That led him to a second-team All-CAA pick with the best 3-point percentage in the conference and second in total makes with 99 in 32 games. Nationally, he was sixth and 11th in those categories.

Green started this season only hitting threes. Dorsey is the same, with 83 percent of his shots being from deep and 79 percent of his total makes being from 3-point range in his three seasons at William & Mary. Sharpshooting is a valuable skill set in the NBA. If you can add defensive effort and versatility, you can have a very long and successful career.

He would have to bide his time just like Green, who went from averaging 9.9 minutes in the 2022-23 season to 22.7 minutes per game this season. It was the lineup of Kevin Porter Jr., Gary Trent Jr. and Green with Giannis that allowed the Bucks to flourish down the stretch, and those minutes were the only watchable minutes in the playoff series defeat to the Indiana Pacers.

If Dorsey did sign with the Milwaukee Bucks on a two-way or undrafted player, then we wouldn't see too much of him this coming season. However, Green has shown that working with the Wisconsin Herd and continuing to practice your craft can create opportunities at the next level.

Milwaukee doesn't have a ton of financial flexibility, but under-the-radar, cheap moves like bringing in Dorsey could help for the upcoming season and in the long term.
