The Caris LeVert trade is a great one for the Milwaukee Bucks, but it doesn't do much for their logjam at the guard spot. While they shed Gary Harris, they immediately acquired another guard in LeVert to put them right back at square one. Over the next several weeks, one of the biggest storylines for the Bucks will revolve around tweaks likely coming to the backcourt.
Bucks' backcourt is still overflowing
Milwaukee is fully stocked up on guards. Their current roster employs Ryan Rollins, Tyler Herro, Kevin Porter Jr., Brayden Burries, AJ Green, Kasparas Jakucionis, Cormac Ryan, Kam Jones, and now Caris LeVert. While it never hurts to have depth, that is a lot of bodies on one part of the roster, and it would make sense if the team wanted to move some pieces to clear out room.
Trades will likely be on the horizon. It's the most logical thing the Milwaukee Bucks could do right now. The question is who would be on the move.
LeVert himself feels like a logical candidate, especially if the Bucks want to make another big move this summer. The guard, though he could be a nice veteran for this group, is 31 and might be better suited to be on a championship-level squad. His expiring contract makes trading him much easier than if he had multiple years left.
AJ Green is another candidate starting to make more sense. Though he could help this team with its perimeter shooting, Green is among the older players in town and could be highly valued on the open market. Contenders would love to get their hands on one of the best shooters in the entire NBA, and if the Bucks could get solid draft capital in return, it would be worth considering.
Bucks' backcourt can be a legitimate strength
With all of the depth, one could argue that Milwaukee's backcourt is the strongest part of the roster.
Tyler Herro is a former All-Star motivated to return home. Ryan Rollins is a two-way menace who has the tools to complement Herro exceptionally well. Kevin Porter Jr. showed glimpses of elite potential last year. Brayden Burries could be Milwaukee's do-it-all sparkplug who ends up being the steal of what was a loaded draft class.
Kasparas Jakucionis could very well end up being the best player to come to Milwaukee from the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade, given his sheer potential. Green, Ryan, Jones, and LeVert can all be solid depth pieces who perform when called upon. It never hurts to have depth, but at some point, players will have to be let go to whittle down this roster.
