Opposing fans and analysts aren't high on the Milwaukee Bucks heading into the upcoming season, largely due to the team's roster construction. For the first time in a long time, the Bucks don't have a big-name second and third fiddle behind Giannis Antetokounmpo. Myles Turner is their second-best player, and although he's recognizable, he's never earned an All-Star or All-NBA nod.
The Bucks don't have star power, but they do have a balanced roster that is full of players who have something to prove. Cole Anthony, who is among the newcomers, pinpointed this during an interview with The Athletic's Eric Nehm (subscription required). Anthony told Nehm, "The energy is high... Everybody has a chip on their shoulder.” All of the doubt cast onto this team could give them fuel.
Everyone has something to prove with the Milwaukee Bucks
Every single player on the Bucks payroll should be motivated heading into the new NBA season.
While he's already among the greats, Giannis has always been driven by winning, and he won't be content with just one ring. He wants to prove he can do it again. Myles Turner earned a huge check this summer after an up-and-down playoff run with Indiana. He's out to prove he can indeed help a team on the biggest stage.
Bobby Portis will be eager to make an impact after missing 25 games last year due to a suspension. In addition to their desire to earn paydays next summer, Gary Trent Jr. and Kevin Porter Jr. will be on the hunt to bounce back after a few costly plays in the closing moments of the playoffs. AJ Green should be out to cement his status as more than just an outside shooter.
Cole Anthony himself will be out to prove that he can impact winning. He saw the smallest role of his NBA career last year and got traded by the Magic in the summer. The last year has undoubtedly left a sour taste in his mouth, and he will be looking to turn the tide.
Surrounded by other players who are just as motivated as him, everyone should uplift each other on a daily basis. That could be exactly the type of jolt the Milwaukee Bucks need after the last three years ended in devastating fashion. Anthony says the energy is high. Vibes alone don't win championships, but Milwaukee Bucks fans can only hope that the positivity translates to success during the season.
