Despite ties, Bucks' new thought process likely rules them out of one pursuit

In past years, perhaps.

Two-time All-Star Victor Oladipo is seeking an NBA comeback after missing all of last season due to injury, and a handful of teams reportedly attended a workout he recently participated in, per ESPN. While they weren't directly named, the Milwaukee Bucks do have some prior interest in the guard, so it wouldn't be surprising if they at least checked him out, but their new reliance on youth makes it hard to envision them actually bringing him in.

Bucks are all in on youth after countless offseason modifications

Essentially every move the Milwaukee Bucks made this offseason was in an attempt to get younger. They swapped out Brook Lopez and Pat Connaughton for Myles Turner and Gary Harris, while trying to keep their current youth brigade intact by re-signing Gary Trent Jr., Kevin Porter Jr., Jericho Sims, Ryan Rollins, and Chris Livingston. Victor Oladipo, 33, likely doesn't fit into that process.

The ties are there. Milwaukee attempted to pair the two-way All-Star with Giannis Antetokounmpo in the past via trade, although a deal never materialized. That came when Oladipo was a member of the Indiana Pacers, where he was teammates with new Buck Myles Turner, further shining a light on the team's ties to the guard.

A few years ago, bringing him in would have made plenty of sense, as the Milwaukee Bucks were always trying to stack as many big names as possible, no matter what age. That's how deals for players like Jae Crowder and Serge Ibaka came about. However, those days are over. This team doesn't need to seek out name recognition. They need young up-and-comers.

That's why it's not the end of the world that they've struck out on big-name free agent signings like Marcus Smart and Bradley Beal in recent weeks. Sure, they would have been nice pickups, but they wouldn't have fit in with the reliance on youth this team is committing to now.

In addition to that, Milwaukee really doesn't need another two guard right now. Beal would have been an exception because he's a proven, healthy former All-Star. Where would Oladipo fit into a rotation that has Gary Trent Jr., AJ Green, Gary Harris, Kevin Porter Jr., Cole Anthony, and Ryan Rollins? His best bet would be finding a landing spot with a team that is more guard hungry.

The Milwaukee Bucks are likely done adding guards. If there are more tweaks on the horizon, they should come in the form of a small forward.
