The Milwaukee Bucks made another move on Monday, adding Alex Antetokounmpo on a two-way contract. This is the first time in NBA history that a team has had three brothers on its active roster at once. With Giannis, Thanasis, and Alex all on the roster, the Bucks continue to show their commitment to keeping Giannis happy.
ESPN insider Shams Charania broke the news that Alex will return to Wisconsin, but this time as a part of the Bucks organization, and not just a Wisconsin Herd player. In August, he signed with the Greek team Aris Thessaloniki, where he appeared in only two games before heading back to Milwaukee.
Alex Antetokounmpo joins roster as Bucks continue making moves
The 24-year-old forward went undrafted in the 2021 NBA draft, signing an Exhibit 10 contract with the Toronto Raptors before being waived and remaining with the Raptors 905 G League team. He spent time with the Herd from November 2022 to February 2024, then went to Europe to bounce between teams in Lithuania, Montenegro, and Greece.
No news has broken yet, but the Bucks will now have to part ways with one of their three two-way players. Pete Nance had an excellent preseason debut in the win over the Miami Heat, with Mark Sears impressing against the Detroit Pistons and hitting a dagger in Sunday night's win over the Chicago Bulls. Jamaree Bouyea is the third player on a two-way deal, and he impressed during Summer League with the team.
Nance is the player with the most stock of the three, but he is a forward like Alex. Sears signed as an undrafted rookie to a two-way deal, and the front office had worked him out before the 2024 and 2025 NBA Drafts. This could likely mean that Bouyea is the one who is cut, but we will have to wait and see.
After this week's recent reports around the future of Giannis Antetokounmpo, this move could well have been made to please the superstar, but he has spoken extremely highly of his youngest sibling in interviews.
Rumors continue circling around Giannis, but also other members of the roster. Kyle Kuzma is the top name on many lists, with the mock trades being thrown around as the Bucks look to bolster their wing positions.
It is most likely that this move was made to please Giannis and keep his family close to Milwaukee. For those hoping that Kostas would also join, he is signed with EuroLeague team Olympiacos and is not eligible for a two-way deal with the Bucks.
This move will make very little impact on the Bucks when it comes to regular season games, but off the court, it could play a bigger part in the franchise's future as they look to keep their two-time MVP in town.
