The Detroit Pistons will likely get involved as another team if the Milwaukee Bucks and Miami Heat strike up a deal for Giannis Antetokounmpo. One scenario involves Tyler Herro going to Detroit and additional assets heading to Milwaukee. What would they be? According to The Athletic's Sam Amick (subscription required), Isaiah Stewart is up for grabs.
It wouldn't be shocking if they tried sending him to Milwaukee in a multi-team framework.
Pistons' emerging as factor in Giannis race
NBA insider Marc Stein (subscription required) reported recently that Detroit is indeed a team to keep an eye on as a facilitator in a Milwaukee-Miami trade because they have interest in Herro. With a need for more shooting and scoring, it makes sense. With Stewart on the block, one can easily put two and two together and figure he'd be on his way out in a Herro package.
Realistically, a deal would involve Detroit trading Stewart, Caris LeVert, and the 21st pick in this draft for Herro. If Milwaukee is acquiring all three pieces, that's a solid package rather than taking Herro in themselves. Stewart is a solid young center, LeVert is an expiring contract, and even the 21st pick in this draft has the potential to net Milwaukee a strong rotation player.
None of that is certain to happen, but it's something to keep an eye on as Giannis chatter heats up.
Stewart would make sense in Milwaukee
There has been plenty of chatter about the Milwaukee Bucks shaking up the frontcourt this summer. Giannis is obviously the big domino, but no one knows what is in store for Bobby Portis, Kyle Kuzma, Myles Turner, and Jericho Sims. If the team goes all in on youth, there is a good chance that Sims is the only one remaining by the time summer ends.
If that does indeed come to fruition, having a 25-year-old big man on a relatively team-friendly deal would not be the worst thing in the world. Stewart has been a productive piece throughout his NBA career, making headlines as a strong interior scorer, feisty rebounder, and determined shot-blocker. Those traits would be nice to have in the next era of Milwaukee Bucks basketball.
For now, all of this is just rumors. Giannis might not even land in Miami as rumors about the Boston Celtics are still lingering. He could very well stay in Milwaukee. However, there is no denying that the Milwaukee Bucks are working the phones as they try to find out what a world without Giannis could look like.
