In a recent report from The Stein Line's Jake Fischer (subscription required), Milwaukee Bucks players mentioned in trade chatter were Caris LeVert, Jericho Sims, and Kevin Porter Jr. as the Bucks must trim one more player amid roster cuts. It would be surprising if anyone pounced on LeVert, but Porter is seemingly the frontrunner to be moved, which could cement Sims' spot in town.

Porter trade could mark Sims safe

In that report, Fischer dropped a surprising tidbit that the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers had discussions about a deal that would send Sims to LA. While he notes that there was pessimism about the deal actually getting over the finish line, Sims was clearly someone who could have been a sacrifice to cut down the roster. Now, things are trending in the opposite direction.

Fischer reported on Monday that the Sacramento Kings are eyeing a trade for Porter after losing Ben Simmons for the season. Given how close the start of the season is, it feels like Sacramento's interest in the guard could be a quick fix to beef up the backcourt. It would also make plenty of sense for the Bucks, who could clear out backcourt minutes for Kasparas Jakucionis and Brayden Burries.

While it might sting to see his teammate go, this scenario unfolding could be great news for Sims.

Sims could continue to grow with Bucks

If Sims wanted to leave the Milwaukee Bucks, he would have opted out of his contract this summer and tested the market. He certainly would have had suitors after showing growth with the Bucks this past season. However, clearly wanting to keep growing with this organization, the big man opted into his option and stuck around.

If he sticks, his role as Milwaukee's third-string big man will remain in place. It's a great spot for him to be in, as he complements the Myles Turner-Kel'el Ware pairing well. With the Bucks pivoting more to a youth-driven approach, it wouldn't be shocking if Turner got moved at some point, which could make Sims an even more important piece to the franchise.

Perhaps that sounds more desirable than being traded to a new environment just before the season and having no time to find his footing.

Sims, Porter, and everyone else is waiting to see who ends up being the sacrifice to trim Milwaukee's roster down to 15 contracts.
