It is time to make a move.

The Milwaukee Bucks have reached crisis mode. They are 2-8 and 14th in the Eastern Conference after ten games. Milwaukee is 22nd in defensive rating and has struggled with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard healthy. Head coach Doc Rivers is searching for answers and will have to make more alterations with Dame sidelined by a concussion.

The Bucks are already making trade calls (subscription required) and desperately need an upgrade. They thought Gary Trent Jr., Taurean Prince, and Delon Wright could give them needed depth, but two of them have been unplayable. Milwaukee desperately needs foot speed, athleticism, and someone capable of guarding lead ball-handlers if they are going to be serious contenders.

The answer to the Bucks’ biggest problems resides in Chicago. The Bulls have a crowded backcourt and may look to make a move before the deadline. Can Milwaukee convince their division rival to part with a 6’5 guard known for his two-way contributions? It could be the perfect move.

Ayo Dosunmu is ideal trade target for the Bucks

Dosunmu is sixth on the Bulls in minutes per game, but it is difficult to find room when everyone is healthy. Chicago tried to trade Zach LaVine, but cannot find a taker for his massive contract. The Bulls want to play Coby White, Josh Giddey, Lonzo Ball, and Dosunmu. They have Dalen Terry, Julian Phillips, Jevon Carter, and first-round Matas Buzelis waiting on the bench for a chance. They are not serious contenders, and Chicago should shift to featuring their young talent after the deadline.

If White and Giddey are the Bulls’ backcourt of the present and future, Dosunmu could be expendable. The 24-year-old instantly adds some needed youth and athleticism. He is 6’5 and coming off a season where he shot 40.3 percent on 295 3-point attempts. Dosunmu can make plays, defend multiple positions, and help his team win. That is just what the Bucks need.

Milwaukee has struggled to find trades because of their second apron restrictions, but there are zero worries here. Pat Connaughton has become unplayable for the Bucks and is making slightly more than Dosunmu. They could deal him and draft capital to Chicago to get back the needed piece. It would likely cost them their 2031 first-rounder, but the Bucks cannot afford to be cautious.

Ayo Dosunmu could provide a significant lift to the Milwaukee Bucks, but cannot do it alone. Giannis and Dame must be better. The franchise cannot lose the minutes with their two superstars on the floor or it will be a long season. Finding a workable two-man game and getting a defensive upgrade like Dosunmu could instantly vault Milwaukee back up the standings.

It is a significant ask, but a needed one. Without it, expect another disappointing season and massive changes in the offseason. No fan wants to live through that potential doomsday scenario.
