For reasons both good and bad, the Milwaukee Bucks have been featured heavily in the latest news cycles around the NBA. Rather than tracking down the latest individually, here are a few of the major storylines making the rounds surrounding Milwaukee.
NBA is looking into Gary Trent Jr.'s contract
The Milwaukee Bucks officially announced that they re-signed Gary Trent Jr. on Thursday, and NBA insider Shams Charania reported almost immediately after that the league would be "probing" the move. It was a controversial decision to hand Trent $64 million guaranteed after one of his worst seasons to date, and the league clearly believes something is going on behind the scenes.
The popular theory is that the Bucks potentially promised Trent this deal last summer and were boxed into a corner, having to cough it up to keep their word. Time will tell if any proof arises on that front.
Bucks are chasing free agent Peyton Watson
Milwaukee's roster is already over the legal regular season limit at this point, but that hasn't stopped them from eyeing other names. NBA insider Marc Stein (subscription required) reported recently that Milwaukee has eyes on Peyton Watson, the in-demand Nuggets forward, in a sign-and-trade. Another forward could do this team a lot of good, so it makes plenty of sense that Milwaukee is on the hunt.
If the Bucks truly want Watson, they will have to beat out two other suitors in the Hawks and Clippers, and that is if the Nuggets decide not to bring him back either. Milwaukee does have a fresh stash of firepower in the asset stash that they could use on a piece like Watson, who would fit in seamlessly with their new youth-focused timeline.
NBA won't punish Adebayo for Herro scuffle
New Milwaukee Bucks guard Tyler Herro and former Miami Heat teammate Bam Adebayo got into a scuffle at Summer League over the weekend. Reports surfaced that Adebayo struck Herro after the two came into contact, and the rest of the league wondered if there would be any punishment sent his way. There will not be, according to The Athletic's Joe Vardon (subscription required).
It sounds like everyone is ready to move on. Frustrations surfaced, and an altercation was had. Fine. This should only add fuel to the fire when the Bucks and Heat face off next season. Bucks fans will certainly want to clear their calendars for that one.
