The Milwaukee Bucks are always among the most active teams in the NBA when it comes to trades, and that should remain true this season.
While they've been involved in rumors for weeks, a deal has not gained any traction. There are several reasons for that, such as their lack of draft capital, but another factor potentially holding them back is the December 15 restriction. A good portion of players across the NBA, notably free agent signings from this past summer, cannot be traded until then, limiting teams in trade discussions.
Things should certainly heat up once that restriction lifts, giving teams needed flexibility. Who can be traded on Milwaukee's end once December 15 comes? Let us break it down and explain why a trade involving any of them is unlikely.
Gary Trent Jr.
It would make zero sense for the Milwaukee Bucks to trade Gary Trent Jr. He was the biggest steal of NBA Free Agency in the eyes of many, and though he got off to a rough start for the Bucks, he's found his footing lately. Signed to a minimum contract, Milwaukee has a key reserve on a team-friendly deal, and his importance to this second unit will only grow with time. He's not going anywhere.
Taurean Prince
While many rightfully consider Trent to be the biggest offseason steal, Taurean Prince, also signed to a minimum deal, is making a case himself. Starting for Milwaukee in Khris Middleton's absence, Prince has done a masterful job by playing tough defense but also leading the NBA in 3-point percentage at 54.2 percent. He's the type of player every team would love, but the Bucks will likely keep him.
Delon Wright
The Delon Wright experience has been a roller coaster. He's been in and out of the rotation several times now, and with Khris Middleton back, he finds himself on the sidelines once more. Still, he is a nice depth piece at point guard, and he's still got some good defense in him. Unless he asks for it or if someone is willing to pay a high price, there's not much incentive for the Bucks to make a trade.
Given that they are all signed to minimum deals, it wouldn't make much sense for Milwaukee to center a deal around these players. Remember, due to the second apron, the Bucks cannot combine salaries in any potential trade. They are unlikely to get someone of better value using Trent, Prince or Wright.
The Bucks should be looking to move Bobby Portis ($12.6 million) or Pat Connaughton ($9.4 million) instead, as their salaries could help them land a prominent upgrade. That December 15 restriction will soon be a thing of the past, and these trade rumors may intensify.
