One of the New York Knicks' concerns as they gear up for their title defense is the center position. They still have Karl-Anthony Towns as their leading man but lost backup Mitchell Robinson, who did his part in helping New York capture the championship, to the Boston Celtics. The Knicks probably wish they still had Jericho Sims, whom they traded to the Milwaukee Bucks, right about now.
Sims has become a solid contributor in Milwaukee
Considering they just won a title, the Knicks certainly aren't losing sleep over it, but the Bucks easily won the trade that netted them Jericho Sims in 2025. Considering it was a five-team deal involving a handful of other teams, the Bucks sending Delon Wright and cash to the Knicks for Sims flew under the radar but has become a nice success story.
Sims has spread his wings in Milwaukee unlike he ever got to do throughout his time in the Big Apple. He started 19 games for the Bucks in 67 games last season compared to 37 times in 177 games with the Knicks. Now, even with Myles Turner and Kel'el Ware in town, Sims looks like he will be a nice cog in Taylor Jenkins' frontcourt rotation.
Meanwhile, Wright played just 20 games with the Knicks between the regular and postseason. He has not appeared in the NBA since, as his career is likely over. Even in hindsight, the deal was a major win for the Milwaukee Bucks, given that Wright was struggling to earn his keep, and moving him handed the keys to the backup point guard position to Ryan Rollins amid his initial ascension.
With all of the struggles Milwaukee has endured over the last two seasons, they should take any win they can get—no matter how small.
Knicks hoping Drummond can stop the bleeding
Without Robinson, Andre Drummond will take over as New York's new backup five. He's a fine veteran who could provide reliable center minutes due to his rebounding, but there is little doubt that his best days are behind him, while Sims may have another level to reach. Drummond could be a fine fill-in for the time being, but it won't be surprising if the Knicks look to upgrade sooner rather than later.
Who knows, the familiarity with Sims could push the Knicks to call the Bucks during the season in an effort to bring back their former big man.
