There's going to be a lot for the Bucks' coaching staff to adjust to over the course of the next few months as the 2025-26 season is set to get started. One of the biggest questions that's going to have to be answered is how specifically the team will utilize Myles Turner.
It's not a secret that there's been a lot of discussion about a "gap year" for Milwaukee this coming season. I think most Bucks fans recognize that there's not really any sense in intentionally taking a step back, so this team is going to have to maximize the output of every single player on the roster.
When it comes to Turner's value and what Milwaukee should be expecting they can get out of him, I think it's relatively clear. The Bucks certainly needed to get a bit younger and more athletic this offseason. That was perhaps the most glaring flaw of this roster headed into the summer.
That's perhaps the most glaring way in which Myles' production is going to be an upgrade over what the current version of Brook Lopez brought to this team. Turner won't just be taking Lopez's spot in the starting lineup, he should serve to be a significant improvement over him.
Myles Turner makes a lot of sense for the Bucks
Whereas Brook was at a point in his career where his mobility had dwindled quite a bit, Myles has plenty left in the tank. Turner won't struggle to contain quicker players on the perimeter, and he'll be able to switch on defense effectively far more often. Those are things Lopez just wasn't able to do as much at 37 years old.
And the best part is that with Myles, you still don't lose a lot of the strengths and tendencies Brook had that made him great. Turner can still act as a strong rim protector on the interior, and his outside shot will be accurate and frequent enough to create advantages for a driving Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Then on top of that, Turner brings a lot of effective intangibles like strong screening that will go a long way toward opening up the Bucks' offense as well. Overall, it's easy to see why this should turn out as a strong fit.
Milwaukee still has a lot to figure out, and it won't be an overnight process. But Myles Turner should prove to make life a lot easier for his teammates, and I think he's going to change the equation for this team in short order.
