The NBA's worst nightmare is coming true with Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo
Giannis Antetokoumpo and the Milwaukee Bucks are rolling, winning four straight and six of their last seven following their huge win over the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday.
The Greek Freak has been on a roll individually, averaging 33.4 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists and two blocks per game on splits of .608/.250/.667 during this seven-game stretch. Of course, the two-time MVP has led by example, but there have been plenty of positives coming from other parts of the roster, with the likes of AJ Green and Gary Trent Jr. leading an offensive charge off the bench.
Milwaukee has propelled themselves all the way up to the sixth seed with an 8-9 record and is now just three games back of the Orlando Magic for third in the Eastern Conference. Defensively, they are standing strong. Offensively, they are thriving, and Giannis has improved one of his previous weaknesses. It has now become a strength that is tormenting Milwaukee's opponents.
Giannis Antetokounmpo is sizzling from mid-range
We all know the dominance Giannis displays on both ends. He is, without question, one of the most dominant paint players in recent NBA history.
What has always been a question mark, though, has been his jump shooting. Every time the Bucks struggled, this shooting was something that was pointed out, mainly involving how it wasn't sustainable.
Well, the big man is proving everyone wrong. He is hitting a staggering 54.5 percent of his shots from the mid-range over the last seven games. He is also second in the entire league for field goal percentage from the mid-range with a minimum of 50 attempts, with only DeMar DeRozan, one of the best mid-range scorers in the game, being ahead of him.
Having Giannis now being able to consistently hit these shots not only opens the game up for him but the Milwaukee Bucks as a whole. Teams now have to consider that in their game plan and can't just drop to the basket constantly on defense, as they know he can score from further out.
This versatility creates opportunities for him to get to the basket with higher defensive coverage, but other Milwaukee Bucks players like Damian Lillard will also now have the space, should they beat their man to a less packed paint.
The early slump saw people on social media and the general media speculating over Giannis' future, and he has well and truly squashed that. Adding the mid-range to his arsenal is just another factor in what makes this man one of the best players in the league, and with the rest of the roster finding their footing, Doc Rivers' team is showing they shouldn't be forgotten about just yet.
The Milwaukee Bucks will head to Miami to face the Heat next, and that will be a very intriguing matchup with how Erik Spoelstra looks to use Bam Adebayo to defend Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Following the trip to Florida, games against the Washington Wizards, Detroit Pistons and Atlanta Hawks follow, with all three being expected wins for the Bucks. If they keep going at this rate, they will be right amongst the contenders again despite the early season media noise.
