One of the objectives of the Milwaukee Bucks this offseason was to add more defensive disruptors, which they did by signing Delon Wright.

The guard is known as a strong defender, utilizing his height and length to make life as challenging as possible for opponents on every possession. One of the ways he does that is by staying active and never letting up defensively, constantly forcing steals. He was recently given props for his efforts on that defensive side of the floor.

NBA2K, the popular video game, has been releasing in-game ratings for major statistical leaders, and Wright was given a 96 out of 100 steal rating, tied for the third-best in the game alongside Memphis guard Marcus Smart and Atlanta's Dyson Daniels. Above them were Portland's Matisse Thybulle and OKC's Alex Caruso. That's certainly not bad company to be in defensively.

Bucks fans should be excited about Delon Wright

For his career, Wright has averaged 1.2 steals per game. In total, he has 620 takeaways, which is the 17th-most by a guard in that span. That might not seem like a tremendous placement, but one must consider that Wright has only averaged 20.7 minutes per contest in his career, while all but four of the players ahead of him are All-Stars playing big minutes. He makes the most of his time on the floor.

When he forces a steal, it will help generate more opportunities in transition, giving them team more opportunities to put points on the board. Considering they ranked 26th in steals per game last year, that was a major weakness for the Bucks. Wright alone won't catapult them into the top 10, but he'll certainly help them possibly leapfrog several NBA teams.

The Ringer's Kevin O'Connor reported that becoming a more versatile team this offseason was one rumored goal for Milwaukee, and a player like Wright will help them mightily with that. Defensively, his 6-foot-5 stature will allow him to hold his own against guards and forwards, making him a key piece in switching situations, something the team will likely use often.

Let's hope Wright steals the show with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2024-25.
