It wasn't shocking that the Milwaukee Bucks didn't rush to re-sign Danilo Gallinaro once free agency opened several months back.
Coming over via the buyout market last season, Gallinari didn't dazzle in his 17 regular season games with the Bucks, averaging 2.8 points, 1.1 rebounds and 0.7 assists per contest. On top of that, with a clear emphasis on injecting more youth into the roster, it wouldn't have made much sense to re-sign the recently turned 36-year-old.
While he likely won't be back in Milwaukee anytime soon, given that their roster is completely full, Gallinari isn't giving up his hopes of finding another NBA team to employ him before the season.
Former Bucks forward is still hoping for a job in the NBA
In a recent interview with 'La Repubblica,' Gallinari spoke on the possibility of him heading overseas, a logical question, with the lack of NBA offers coming his direction. "A return to Italy? Not yet," was his quick reply.
Understandably, the veteran forward is still holding out hope that someone extends an offer his way, as he feels like he has something left to give. Yet, as camp and the preseason near, he's running out of time to get picked up.
At this point in his career, he's best served to be a depth piece in the frontcourt, serving as a break glass in case of emergency big man for a team thin at the spot. Gallinari's days of being a surefire double-figure scoring threat are over, but he still may have some value to provide as a veteran depth piece in someone's locker room right now.
In the aforementioned interview, Gallinari mentioned that he's willing to play anywhere as long as it's a competitive franchise. A good spot for Gallinari would be a younger team that is on the come up and in a spot to contend next season. The team that sticks out the most is the OKC Thunder, his former team, as they have young talent but are contenders who could use another locker room veteran.
