The Milwaukee Bucks beefed up their backcourt this offseason with the solid signing of backup guard Delon Wright.
With Patrick Beverley heading overseas, Wright steps in as Milwaukee's versatile combo guard who will see plenty of action in the nightly rotation. For a team that needed perimeter defenders, they got a good one in Wright, which should make him a key cog in the second unit. With that said, let's break down a few Milwaukee Bucks who will benefit from his presence.
Doc Rivers
Versatility was a prominent weak point of last season's Milwaukee roster, which didn't help Doc Rivers lead the way after taking over midseason. Rivers was often just throwing players out on the floor and seeing which combinations stuck. Now, he'll have an interesting chess piece in Wright that can make his decision-making much easier.
Wright's ability to play both the point and shooting guard positions will give Doc Rivers options when crafting his lineups. When Damian Lillard needs a breather, Rivers can send Wright in for him to take over as a ball-handler. When Lillard is on the floor, Wright can play next to the guard and focus more on the defensive end, taking pressure off of Lillard.
The Ringer's Kevin O'Connor reported earlier this offseason that there were rumblings of the Bucks wanting to get more versatile over these past few months. As previously alluded to, the addition of Wright will help them with that, as there are few lineup combinations he won't be able to be a part of. With that in mind, Rivers and Wright should get along with one another just fine.
