Exceeding expectations: Malik Beasley
Beasley turned down more money in free agency to sign a veteran minimum deal with the Bucks. The 6’4 guard wanted the opportunity to start and play significant minutes. He has run with the chance in Milwaukee and is having an outstanding season.
Beasley is averaging 11.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 0.8 steals in 29.5 minutes per game on 46.8 percent shooting from the field and 44.4 percent on his 3-point attempts. The 27-year-old is playing a different role this season. His focus is on defending and making open shots, which is a significant departure from being a primary scorer off the bench.
Beasley is finding his footing. The 27-year-old has the second-best win shares per 48 minutes of his career and is just entering his prime. He knows the pressure is on. Beasley must play well if he wants a larger contract in free agency this summer. Playing a key role as the Bucks make a deep playoff run will certainly land him one.
Malik Beasley has been one of the better minimum signings. Expect him to continue to make shots, but can his defense hold up in the playoffs? The Bucks hope so, and it is a crucial part of them making a run.
