Projecting the Milwaukee Bucks' ideal bench lineup in 2024-25
By Dalton Sell
Power forward: Taurean Prince
Out of all of the Milwaukee Bucks' offseason additions, Taurean Prince might be the most underrated. Wherever he has gone, Prince has served as a jack of all trades, playing defense, rebounding the ball and shooting at a high level. He's the exact type of player this roster has been trying to find over the past few years, and after many failed attempts, they may have found their answer.
Like the aforementioned Delon Wright, his new teammate, Prince's greatest attributes are his defense and versatility. The 6-foot-6, 30-year-old can play both forward positions, matching up with players of the same mold defensively. It's no secret that the Milwaukee Bucks have been seeking a primary wing defender since P.J. Tucker left, and Prince has the intangibles to help.
Prince's importance will be at its highest when the Bucks roll with their small-ball lineups featuring Giannis Antetokounmpo at center. To squeeze the best out of these particular lineups, the team needs a sweet-shooting, defensive forward who can take on the toughest of matchups. Prince has what it takes to do all of that. He could end up being a vital cog for the Milwaukee Bucks.
Center: Bobby Portis
There's an ongoing debate amongst Milwaukee Bucks fans regarding whether or not Bobby Portis should be on the trade block. Well, as long as he's on the team, he will be a crucial cog in this second unit. The Bucks need Portis, who has finished second in the Sixth Man of the Year running two years in a row now, to bring a spark as the first man off the bench.
Portis needs to set the tone with his rebounding, scoring and perimeter shooting; at this point, the odds are him turning things around defensively seem slim. If Bobby Portis can do those things while keeping a level head on not getting ejected in crucial moments, there's a chance this is the year he breaks through and finally takes Sixth Man of the Year honors home for himself.
