Ranking the Milwaukee Bucks' biggest breakout candidates for 2024-25
By Aitor Darias
3. AJ Green
AJ Green made himself known last season after Doc Rivers played him over Beauchamp and other young pieces. He quickly became a solid piece of the Milwaukee Bucks' bench unit. Now, he has the chance to make an even bigger leap.
He was known as a consistent shooter, and he soon proved that to be accurate. He not only hit a solid 40.8 percent of his 3-pointers, but he also showed he had a deep range and was able to knock down shots from way above the line. He was fearless, not thinking twice about going for the shots when he had the chance, hitting big ones in close games and ending the regular season strong.
However, he was more than a sharpshooter. His one-on-one defense shined at times, helping him stay on the court even when the shots weren't falling. He has quick feet, so he can stay close to his man, not letting opponents get to the rim while contesting a lot of shots.
It's unclear how much he could grow this year, though. He has barely proved he's capable of driving to the rim or even scoring off the dribble, so those are two areas of his game he could improve, but there aren't really a lot of reasons to think he will.
It doesn't seem like he can become a solid playmaker either, so we might have already seen a close version of what he can be at his best. That is no small feat, but it doesn't make the strongest case for the breakout player of the season. Still, the potential here cannot be ignored, so he comes in third.
