Right in the middle of a blowout of one of their fiercest foes, the Milwaukee Bucks lost franchise star Giannis Antetokounmpo due to a calf injury.

Going down against the Boston Celtics on April 9, there was hope that the Greek Freak could return to the court at some point in the playoffs, but that never happened. The Bucks played all six of their postseason games against the Indiana Pacers without Antetokounmpo, signaling how severe this season-ending injury was.

With this being the second consecutive year Antetokounmpo missed significant time in the playoffs with an injury, many Bucks fans wanted him to take it easy this summer, aiming to get his body right to help the team bounce back in 2024-25. Well, it appears that will not be the case, as Antetokounmpo will be back on the basketball court very soon.

Per a new report, Vassilis Spanoulis confirmed that Giannis will be participating in the upcoming FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Piraeus, suiting up for Greece.

Reactions to Giannis Antetokounmpo's decision

Understandably, fans are torn on this decision. On the one hand, it would be great for Giannis to let his body get as much ready as possible to avoid wearing down before next season. On the other, he has always expressed his love and desire to represent Greece in these matchups, and some respect that dediction.

If Giannis is healthy, you just might have a better chance of winning the lottery than convincing him to take the summer off to rest when he has an opportunity to don that jersey and represent his country. That's his loyalty gene, one of his greatest attributes, kicking in.

Ultimately, as long as Antetokounmpo stays healthy and is ready to roll by the start of next season, all will be fine. There are certainly concerns about burnout and basketball over the summer taking a toll on him, but Antetokounmpo has made a promise to Milwaukee Bucks fans that he will be back with a vengeance next season. Let's hope he can fulfill it and then some.
