Delon Wright
Coming in just a tick over Jackson on the payroll is Delon Wright, who signed with the Bucks via a one-year deal worth $2.1 million earlier this offseason. Given exactly what Wright brings to the table and the many needs this Milwaukee roster had this NBA offseason, getting the guard on this contract is a bargain in the eyes of many onlookers.
After seeing how last season played out, it was clear that the Bucks should invest heavily in as many perimeter defenders as possible. With the addition of Wright, they now have a 6-foot-5 combo guard who can utilize his size and length to defend a handful of positions. After years of seeing the Bucks' undersized point guards get targeted by opponents constantly, this will be a nice change of pace.
Wright will primarily be Milwaukee's backup point guard, but he'll also be on the floor as a shooting guard from time to time. That versatility will make him an incredibly valuable asset to Doc Rivers, as Wright can be plugged into plenty of different lineup combinations. With a need for defense, there's no doubt Rivers will keep Wright close to him at all times.
Wright's numbers from this past year don't jump off the page, as he averaged 4.5 points, 2.5 assists, and 1.8 rebounds while shooting below 40 percent from the floor. That may have some fans pumping the breaks on the impact the veteran can have on this team, but he's the type of player who can make an impact without having to stuff the stat sheet, primarily defensively.
Given his attributes and the type of role he's likely to play this coming season, Wright signing with the Milwaukee Bucks for just over $2 million is a steal.
