Keeping Ryan Rollins feels like a no-brainer move for the Milwaukee Bucks, but his return is not set in stone at this point. If the young guard were to depart Milwaukee for any reason, it would make plenty of sense for the team to fill out their backcourt with someone from this upcoming draft. Working out Milos Uzan signals that the front office is eyeing potential backcourt options, but reports indicate he will return to school for another year, taking him off Milwaukee's list of options.
Milwaukee Bucks working out under the radar NBA Draft prospect
From a physical standpoint, Rollins (6-foot-4, 180 lbs) and Uzan (6-foot-4, 184 lbs) are fairly similar. Though Rollins boasts a far more impressive wingspan, both are pesky defenders in their own ways, hounding opposing guards. Milwaukee needs as much defense from their guards as they can get, and Uzan would bring some added versatility, just like Rollins did this past season.
Offensively, the Milwaukee Bucks will need facilitating and shooting to come from someone as they aim to stay afloat without Damian Lillard, and that will only increase if they do lose Rollins. Uzan could have helped, coming off a year in which he put up 4.3 assists per game while shooting 42.8 percent from the perimeter. He's capable of providing the type of instant offense any team could use.
There's a lot to like about Uzan had he stayed in the NBA Draft. However, with his placement in mock drafts all over the place, creating plenty of uncertainty, returning to school for his senior year makes sense. He will now have more time to work on his game and aim to climb higher on draft boards next summer. NIL money certainly doesn't hurt either in today's climate.
With Uzan off the big board, the Milwaukee Bucks must turn elsewhere if they want guard depth in the upcoming draft. They've worked out a handful of other point guards, such as Max Shulga, Mark Sears, AJ Hoggard, and Wade Taylor IV. Milwaukee's priority should be keeping Kevin Porter Jr. and Rollins, but they have to prepare for backup scenarios if they lose either of them.
Perhaps the Milwaukee Bucks can circle back on Milos Uzan next year, where he may be even better. For now, they enter an offseason with plenty of uncertainty at the point guard position.
