As the Milwaukee Bucks look to put the finishing touches on their roster, NBA insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fischer have reported that a reunion with Thanasis Antetokounmpo is not out of the equation. The forward is back on the basketball court ahead of 2025 EuroBasket, suiting up for Greece after he missed all of last season due to injury. This could be his audition to return to Milwaukee.
Bucks could bring back a familiar face to finish offseason
Thanasis tallied six points in just over 12 minutes as Greece beat Belgium. Obviously, after missing all of last season due to a torn Achilles tendon, the forward likely wasn't going to have a career day in his early days back on the court. However, it was welcoming to see him out there nonetheless, and this is just the beginning for what could be his comeback to the basketball court.
In the end, how Thanasis performs might not be the ultimate deciding factor in their decision to bring him back. Of course, during his five years with the Milwaukee Bucks, Thanasis was never relied upon as a consistent contributor. His nightly role revolved around being a constant source of energy on the sidelines, hyping up other players, including younger brother Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Yet, it could still further solidify the decision to bring him back if he does look good on the court after his last NBA game back on May 2, 2024.
With that in mind, bringing back the forward wouldn't be the worst move. He'd be the 15th man on the roster, serving as break glass in case of emergency depth. Possessing a reputation as a strong locker room presence and familiarity with the franchise, Thanasis has value on this roster. Never hurts to keep Giannis happy by bringing in someone he has always raved about as well.
Before the Milwaukee Bucks make any decision on Thanasis Antetokounmpo, they must make their stance on Andre Jackson Jr. clear. The team pushed back the guarantee date on his contract to the start of next season, giving themselves plenty of time to decide if they want him. If they would rather have Thanasis, they can cut ties with Jackson at any moment.
Whether they let Jackson go or open up roster room via trade, don't be surprised if the Bucks make room for Thanasis Antetokounmpo soon. His performance during EuroBasket 2025 could only beef up his chances of a return.
