Ryan Rollins has secured his spot as the Milwaukee Bucks starting point guard. That may have happened on day one, actually, and he's been re-securing his starting spot every day since then. Not to be dramatic, but the 23 year-old point guard has single-handedly changed the future outlook of this franchise. He appears to be, at least, a longterm starting-caliber player on a team that shouldn't take those for granted right now.

Hence, even with Kevin Porter Jr. nearing his return to the Bucks lineup and 2025-26 debut, Rollins mustn't worry about his spot being stolen in the Bucks backcourt. When Porter Jr. does return, he should fill in nicely as Rollins' backup, with Cole Anthony and AJ Green splitting minutes at the other guard spot.

It's not a perfectly balanced backcourt rotation, but it feels a lot better now than it did three months ago for Bucks fans, and Rollins is the biggest reason for that. It's at least passable, and it didn't appear like that would be the case.

Ryan Rollins has established himself as more than a fill-in starter

Instead of the Bucks running a backcourt with Rollins as the starter until they can find someone else, Rollins looks like the guy who you build a backcourt around. It's impossible to overstate how much of a miracle he's been for this team.

Doc Rivers will be forced to adjust the minutes distribution when Porter Jr. returns. Porter Jr. and Rollins might clash a bit when they're on the court together, as neither is great off the ball or in a secondary ball-handler role. I think a majority of Bucks fans will agree that Rollins' future outlook on the team is much clearer than Porter Jr's, and I think the latter will play around the 20 minutes per game he averaged for the Bucks last season.

Extra depth is always welcomed, and Porter Jr. will provide that if nothing else. But Ryan Rollins is this team's starting point guard for the foreseeable future, a truth that Bucks fans are getting more comfortable with by the day.
