Suns gifted Bucks even more leverage in Giannis trade sweepstakes

With the Warriors knocked out, they will be even more aggressive in the Giannis hunt.

The Golden State Warriors were already set to chase Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo this summer, but their interest should only intensify after their latest loss. After dropping their Play-In matchup against the Phoenix Suns, Golden State's season is over, and yet another year of Stephen Curry's prime has finished. Trying to make the most of their time with him, they need a splash.

Warriors' Giannis interest should only increase

As they just learned, the Warriors, as constructed, cannot win a title. At 38, Curry may only have a few good years left before he hangs up his shoes. Golden State would certainly prefer to return to being a title threat rather than missing the postseason entirely with the future Hall of Famer in town. If this is the offseason where Giannis finally asks out, they need to be all over him.

Pairing Antetokounmpo with Curry would form a one-two punch that Bay Area fans have dreamed of for years now. It would help Golden State push for a title now but also keep their window open even in the years following Curry's retirement, given that Giannis is just 31, as he could take over as the face of the franchise down the line.

The Warriors were in hot pursuit of Giannis leading up to the NBA Trade Deadline, but their offer was ultimately turned down. Now, following their early exit, perhaps they will find a way to craft an even more desirable pitch that would get the Milwaukee Bucks interested.

Warriors have intriguing, though not perfect, package

Golden State's offer is largely centered around draft picks. The Bucks wouldn't care much for veteran players like Draymond Green or Jimmy Butler, but all of their first-round picks would be nice. It should still raise some red flags that the Warriors don't have a true blue-chip young prospect to offer, but the Milwaukee Bucks could potentially look beyond that if they value picks more.

What could truly swing things in Golden State's favor is where they land in the upcoming draft lottery. The Warriors are currently projected to pick 11th, but that could change. If they get lucky and take a leap, perhaps landing within the top five, their offer suddenly becomes far more interesting. Miami is another team hoping for similar luck in this regard.

If the Milwaukee Bucks do entertain trading Giannis this summer, keep an eye on Golden State as perhaps the most aggressive interested suitor.
