The Milwaukee Bucks have so many questions in the backcourt heading into the summer. That makes it somewhat surprising they haven't yet worked out Duke's Tyrese Proctor ahead of the NBA Draft, as he's a player likely to be available in their range who could certainly help patch some holes if he were to make his way onto this roster.
Bucks should take a closer look at Duke guard
There's plenty to be infatuated with when it comes to Tyrese Proctor. He's 6-foot-5 and lengthy. He's a combo guard capable of playing both on and off the ball. He shot 40.5 percent on 3-pointers at Duke last season. He's got plenty of room to grow. At 20, Proctor would be younger than many of the ideal prospects for the Bucks, but he's not some incredibly raw prospect as a three-year college starter.
There are some concerns, such as Proctor's slim frame that could lead to him having trouble against bigger NBA guards, and his lack of elite athleticism. However, the good may outweigh the bad here.
Proctor could perhaps play the role Ryan Rollins thrived in last season. He typically wasn't the lead facilitator and scorer, but his ability to work off the ball and then occasionally handle it made him a true Swiss Army Knife. Paired with excellent shooting and versatile defense, Rollins cemented himself as a key cog in this rotation late in the 2024-25 NBA season.
With Rollins about to be a restricted free agent, Kevin Porter Jr. set to decline his player option any day now, and Damian Lillard working his way back from an Achilles tear, Milwaukee's backcourt has plenty of openings. Again, Proctor likely won't be a lead guard to start his career, but he could be of use when it comes to providing second-unit support.
Proctor is projected to go somewhere in the 40s in this upcoming draft. Milwaukee picks 47th overall, so there is at least a chance he's still available when they are on the clock. With that in mind, he must make his way onto Milwaukee's workout list, especially with the team very clearly eyeing guard depth with the likes of Mark Sears, Max Shulga, Wade Taylor IV, and many more.
At the time of this writing, the only teams confirmed to work out Tyrese Proctor are the Miami Heat and Sacramento Kings, per HoopsHype's draft workout tracker.
