The odds of the Milwaukee Bucks keeping Taurean Prince this offseason seem slim.
While he played well during the regular season, Prince's presence dipped mightily in the postseason, so a split feels inevitable. If the Bucks do lose a key rotational wing, there are several prospects in the upcoming 2025 NBA Draft who could be ready to take some of his minutes. Let's analyze a few of the wings the Milwaukee Bucks could snag late in the second round.
John Tonje, Wisconsin
A fan favorite prospect among Wisconsinites for obvious reasons, Tonje would fit well with the Bucks for more than just the short commute to Milwaukee. The 6-foot-5 wing has the potential to be a solid two-way contributor at the NBA level, displaying signs of strong shot-making and passable defense at the college level as a member of the Badgers this past season.
Tonje wouldn't offer superior athleticism to Prince, but the young wing undeniably has more upside as a potential three-level scoring threat, something the Bucks could really use rather than another player who is primarily a standstill shooter. At 24, Tonje might be older than most other prospects, but he may also be ready to contribute at the NBA level sooner than some others because of that.
Koby Brea, Kentucky
Taurean Prince is a tremendous perimeter shooter, at least in the regular season, but he lacks in other areas of his game. The same can be said for Kentucky's Koby Brea, who has already been mocked to the Milwaukee Bucks. Brea shot a fantastic 43.4 percent from downtown during his collegiate career, and it's that shooting that will help him find a home at the next level, even with the other flaws.
The Milwaukee Bucks are always hunting for more outside shooting to place around their franchise star in Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Brea would help; there's no denying that. The big question is if he can develop the other parts of his game, such as his passing, defense and rebounding. If he can take steps in any of those facets, this pick could be much better.
Micah Peavy, Georgetown
The Milwaukee Bucks envisioned Taurean Prince being one of their best perimeter defenders when they initially brought him in. That didn't exactly work out, but if wing defense is something this team is seeking, Georgetown's Micah Peavy could be their focus. He's a tall, lengthy, athletic wing who never shied away from taking on the toughest assignments.
Not only was Peavy a great individual defender, but he also always kept active hands, averaging an eye-popping 2.3 steals per game this past season. That type of disruptor could be exactly what the Milwaukee Bucks need to give their defensive effort a jolt. He's also not too shabby as a scorer and passer, averaging 17.2 points and 3.6 assists per game this season. He has great two-way potential.
