With his all-around performance Monday against the Hornets, Ryan Rollins showed the Bucks what kind of players they should be targeting in trades. They need to add more do-it-all players like Rollins rather than one-dimensional scorers who are useless if their shot isn't falling. Despite a poor shooting night, he was able to have a positive impact with the other parts of his game.

The Bucks need more players like Ryan Rollins

Rollins established his status as a starter with his well-rounded effort. He only shot 3-of-10 for 13 points against Charlotte, but got it done in other ways. Rollins also stuffed the stat sheet with 3 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. He's arguably the best perimeter defender in the Bucks' starting lineup, so his impact goes far beyond the counting stats.

His leaps as a scorer and playmaker have defined Rollins' overall improvement this season. But he still brings the same defensive energy that he had while fighting for a roster spot in the NBA. This has made him a reliable option for the Bucks even when he's not dominating offensively.

The Bucks are at their best when their players contribute on both ends of the court. It's easy to look at their roster and conclude that Giannis needs a proper co-star to elevate the team. But the Bucks have bigger structural flaws, including defense, that one scorer won't be able to fix.

That's why giving up significant assets for a scorer like Zach Lavine or Malik Monk could be disastrous. Adding another poor defender to a group that already ranks below average in defensive rating could tank the Bucks. Milwaukee has been linked to those players in rumors, but will hopefully have the wisdom to hold off on such a trade.

Rollins' play is a beautiful in-house example of a versatile game. He's able to fit into multiple different schemes on both ends of the court because of his well-rounded game. The Bucks need more of that from their supporting cast, rather than players who tend to be too one-sided in their approach.

If they can take that route at the trade deadline and bring in more two-way guys, the Bucks still have a chance to make the playoffs. With role players doing their job and filling in however needed, the Bucks still have a superstar who can make them a threat in a depleted Eastern Conference. Despite all their struggles this season, the path forward seems clear and has been shown by their most promising young player.
