Wisconsin Herd guard and two-time NBA All-Star Victor Oladipo is currently looking to work his way back into the league, but the next step is improving his efficiency. The guard has displayed plenty of positives during his short time in Oshkosh, but his scoring hasn't been as efficient as it must be if he really wants teams to take notice.
Victor Oladipo could bump his percentages up a bit
During his short time with the Herd, Oladipo is averaging 12.8 points, but he's shooting 13.5 times per game to get there. Currently, he's hitting just 38.9 percent of his shots, including 30.4 percent of them from distance. There have been glimpses of strong offensive play, such as transition dunks or deep 3-pointers, but the overall lack of efficiency has held him back.
Part of this inefficiency could absolutely be the small sample size. Oladipo has appeared in just four games with the Herd since being acquired. He's still feeling things out with his new teammates and coaches in the early going. Once he gets his legs under him and builds that chemistry, there's a shot he takes off offensively. As a former All-Star, he should dominate the competition.
Even if the scoring hasn't been up to par out of the gates, Oladipo has put together some good film in other areas. He's averaging 4.5 rebounds, four assists, and two steals, serving as a do-it-all player for this Wisconsin Herd squad. The next step is doing all of that while also finding his groove as a scorer. That will certainly catch the eye of NBA teams on the hunt for reinforcements.
Given that he's on their G League squad, the Milwaukee Bucks will certainly be among the teams with a close eye on Oladipo. A two-way, two-time All-Star, even with his injury history, could potentially be of use to a team that has been stuck in the mud lately. However, Oladipo must give the team more film to study before they make any calls.
While everyone thought Oladipo would be the Herd player to gather the most headlines, it's actually been Pete Nance. The big man is averaging 21.8 points, eight rebounds, and 4.4 assists per contest, showing that he very well may deserve more attention. This duo could be a nice one-two punch as soon as Oladipo's shots start falling with more regularity.
It's a long season, so Oladipo has plenty of time.
