Although it leaked a couple of days earlier, the Milwaukee Bucks’ G-League team, the Wisconsin Herd, officially revealed their logo on Thursday.

While we all wait for the results of Thursday’s draft, the Milwaukee Bucks continue to take steps in establishing the identity of their G-League affiliate, the Wisconsin Herd.

The intrigue surrounding the team’s logo was practically extinguished since it leaked a couple of days earlier via Conrad Burry of SportsLogos.net. Nevertheless, the Bucks officially launched the logo this afternoon, confirming what surfaced earlier in the week.

As you can tell, both the primary logo and secondary logo for the Herd take inspiration from their parent club’s identity.

Starting with the primary logo, here’s how the team describes the look and the intention behind the design in the statement they released to coincide with the release of the logos:

"“The Herd’s new primary logo features three forward facing bucks that are purposefully shown without defined separation to signify the strength of the herd coming together as one unit. The bucks themselves, while resembling the forceful stag shown in Milwaukee’s logo, are representative of the developmental promise of the G League franchise. With slightly softer facial features and a smaller rack than the Milwaukee buck, Herd’s deer are given a more youthful, yet still fierce, identity.”"

Moving on to the secondary logo, the Herd will utilize another familiar logo from the Bucks, this time with another twist. Again, here’s how the team itself describes the look of the alternate design:

"“The secondary logo, much like the Bucks secondary mark, utilizes a stylized basketball that is derived from the shape of the antlers found in the primary logo and identifies the Wisconsin Herd with a “W” replacing Milwaukee’s ‘M’.”"

Finishing with the team’s colors, the Herd’s color scheme will center around three colors: Good Land Green, Cream City Cream and Great Lakes Blue. The team will also use the colors black and white as well, further building on the team’s overall brand and identity established two years ago.

To commemorate the unveiling of the team’s visual identity, Wisconsin Herd President Steve Brandes delivered a statement on behalf of the team:

"“The Wisconsin Herd logo embodies the fierce mindset we look to bring to the court while connecting our team to the strong brand already established by the Milwaukee Bucks throughout the state,” said Brandes. “We’re excited to unveil our logo and to build a fan base across the Fox Valley and throughout Wisconsin.”"

Along with Brandes, Bucks President Peter Feigin was on hand to celebrate the achievement and also shared a statement:

"“We’re very excited to celebrate another important milestone for the Wisconsin Herd and for Bucks fans statewide,” said Feigin. “The Herd will be a huge benefit for the Bucks both on and off the court as we can enhance our player and staff development while further extending our brand.”"

For those wondering about when the team will release their uniform designs, the team states that they will be “unveiled at an event later in the summer.”

Although much of the curiosity had diminished before it was officially shown, establishing the Herd’s brand is worthy of acknowledging and is certainly an important step for the franchise moving forward.

No matter how you may feel about the look of the logo itself, it falls in line with what the team’s ownership has set out to build with their brand and overall mission to make the Bucks a team not just for the city of Milwaukee, but for the entire state of Wisconsin.
