Brandon Knight

Knight arrived in Milwaukee as part of a trade that left many unsure as to whether the Bucks had done the right thing, and saw multiple smaller name players move in the opposite direction. Ironically he departs under very similar circumstances.

More from Bucks Rumors

Knight has been outstanding as a Buck, developing his game at a rate that nobody could possibly have anticipated, and showing an intelligence and understanding of the game that I’m not sure anyone quite knew he possessed during his time in Detroit.

Without a shadow of a doubt, Knight is a starting point guard in the NBA. Although the debate on whether his skills could be better utilized as a two guard will likely rage on for years, Knight’s rage of abilities allows him to make a significant impression as a floor general.

I’m willing to hazard a guess that there was a lot more to this trade than meets the eye though.

Knight is a restricted free agent this summer, and coming off the back of a career year he seems likely to command a high price. When you consider that the Bucks and Knight couldn’t agree on an extension when the 23-year-old’s perceived worth was significantly lower, the team may have felt it was time to look in a different direction.

It’s hard to argue with that too. In fact, it’s prudent team building. If you don’t believe a guy is quite as good as the money he’s going to end up being paid, best to make sure you’re not the one signing his check.
