#1. Cleveland Cavaliers – 12/02/2014, Quicken Loans Arena
For a rookie hyped to be one of the stars of his generation, it was always going to be a big deal for Jabari Parker to come into Cleveland and square off with the league’s undisputed number one player, LeBron James.
It was also fitting that with 22 points, eight rebounds, three assists and 11-15 shooting from the field it was likely Parker’s best night so far in the NBA.
This play contains many of the key aspects of those we’ve already looked at, but sees them combined in super quick time to provide a jaw-dropping moment.
Parker initiates by starting far out on the top left of the perimeter faced off with veteran defender Shawn Marion. As Parker dances along the sideline, an Ilyasova screen leads to Marion getting caught up, and Kevin Love switching over.
Using his high IQ and awareness, Parker immediately senses the mis-match and uses his speed to blow past Love to the basket.
Instead of trying a near-side floater, or simply just using the rim to protect him from shot blockers, Parker tip-toes along the baseline before aggressively kicking off his right leg to set up a ferocious finish.
In LeBron James’ home arena that’s a heck of a way to announce to the league just how good you really are.
This season should be fun, Bucks fans.
