Just when fans were ready to give up on this team–this core–the Milwaukee Bucks, in pure Bucks fashion, pulled out a 112-111 win over the third placed Boston Celtics.

The major news before the game was that Greg Monroe and Michael Carter-Williams were coming off the bench.

Naturally, this whipped up the Bucks-verse into a frenzy. Questions like: Is this a dress rehearsal for life sans Monroe and MCW? Has Jason Kidd finally lost his mind (again)? Are the Bucks sending a message to Boston (a woefully undersized team, and potential trade parter)? And is Miles Plumlee good enough to start (?) rattled around Bucks conversation like a MCW free throw.

So how did the great $16.41 million benching go?

Well, the Bucks won. And it satisfied approximately no one.

On one hand you beat an Eastern Conference contender. On the other you reeled in a pointless win and lost ground in the lottery chase.

On one hand you have a 40-20 (!!) third quarter. On the other you surrender a 37-19 fourth.

We saw flashes of what a Parker-Giannis centric team would look like (exciting). We caught a glimpse of good-MCW. We even saw Mayo play full-tilt smart basketball.

The reason why fans may leave this game feeling unsatisfied is because the direction of the team is still unknown. Bringing in Monroe off the bench (albeit in a winning effort), only raises more questions about a woefully under-performing team.

Whatever the future holds any win over a top team is a sweet one and should be enjoyed as such.

We’ll take a close look in our Milwaukee Bucks grades and reactions.
