The first week of the season was not pretty but it got the job done for the Milwaukee Bucks as they won one game and lost one game. Five Bucks played two solid games but only three of them can make the player of the week rankings.

Welcome to the first instalment of the Behind The Buck Pass’ Milwaukee Bucks player of the week for the 2016-17 season. This will be something I will do every week for BTBP to review the best performing Bucks players. I hope it becomes a welcome tradition, loved by all!

The way it works is straightforward – every week I will go into detail about three player of the week candidates and talk about why each is worthy to be in the running for the title. I will also have a running list of the players of the week so you can see who has won one, and who has won the most of the award at any point in the season.

The Milwaukee Bucks started their season against the feisty Charlotte Hornets and the lowly Brooklyn Nets. A betting man would have expected the Bucks to win the first and lose the second of the initial week. That is exactly what happened but there was more to it than just a win here and a loss there.

More from Bucks News

Milwaukee was thoroughly outplayed by Charlotte from the jump. Unfortunately, the Bucks did not look like they belonged on the court with the Hornets for long stretches of the game. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist had one of the best games of his life, with 23 points and 14 rebounds, to lead the Hornets to the victory.

On the other hand, Milwaukee led most of the way against Brooklyn only for the game to get very close in the closing quarter. It was 108-108 with just a few seconds remaining when John Henson tipped in a missed shot that gave the Bucks the lead and the victory. A win is a win but you do not like to see your team in a close game with the Nets, especially when they are without Brook Lopez.

There were five Bucks who certainly qualified for being invited into the weekly top three. Getting down to three was challenging, but it had to be done.

Let’s get to the rankings and see who made the top three and who holds the top spot.
