The Troubling Second Chance Problem

There were definitely more than a few concerns that stood out in how the Bucks eventually lost yesterday, but their showing on the glass has continued a troubling trend as of late.

Losing the rebounding battle 49-32, the Bucks were severely outplayed by the Wizards’ physical play on the boards.

While it was mostly a team wide issue save for Greg Monroe, the Bucks struggled to match the intensity of the likes of Marcin Gortat and Markieff Morris when it came to rebounding. Not to single just one player out, but John Henson in particular, was a regular victim of both Gortat and Morris’ physicality, picking up four personal fouls in the process of trying to hold his own on the boards.

The most concerning aspect of the Wizards’ work on the glass was their ability to create second chance points on offensive rebounds. Of their 13 offensive boards, the Wizards converted 20 second chance points throughout the game, significantly outscoring the Bucks’ four second chance scores on five offensive boards.

With similar performances on the glass against the New York Knicks as well, it’s important for the Bucks to not revert to their old habits of the last two years when it comes to their rebounding output.

Sure, not having Giannis played a big part in that, but it obviously extends to the whole team and being without one player shouldn’t excuse any of that.
