Player To Watch: Buddy Hield

Anytime a guy is the next Stephen Curry, you’ve got to keep an eye on him. I kid, but Buddy Hield has looked pretty dang good since coming to Sacramento. He’s no Steph Curry, but Hield is leading the Baby Kings (the Princes?) in scoring since arriving in Sacramento.

That only means he’s scoring 13.5 points per game over his last 12 contests, but that’s still more than anybody else in Sac-town is managing right now. Hield’s points are coming efficiently too, as he’s shooting 49.2 percent from the field and 46.7 percent from deep in that stretch.

Hield hasn’t scored more than 18 points in a game with the Kings yet, but they certainly hope he becomes the explosive scorer here that he was with Oklahoma in the NCAA. Hield took over the March Madness tournament for a few rounds last year–he was a dominant player.

Lots of guys who dominate the tournament never amount to much in the NBA, but Hield is looking better in Sacramento than he did in New Orleans. Maybe getting to be on a team that lets him shoot is what’s best for Buddy after all.
