Player To Watch: Isaiah Thomas

Isaiah Thomas was an NBA afterthought for a long time. He was taken 60th overall in the 2011 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings, who traded him to the Phoenix Suns for a trade exception and the rights to Alex Oriakhi.

The Suns, then, traded IT to the Celtics for Marcus Thornton and the Cleveland Cavaliers first round pick. Now, with Boston, Thomas is a two-time All-Star who would be the best player on either the Suns or Kings.

It makes sense that Thomas would have a chip on his shoulder. He’s listed at 5’9″, but that’s certainly a generous number. Thomas may be small, but his game has had a major impact on the NBA all season long, and even before that.

Thomas is averaging 29.1 points and 4.1 assists per game, both marks good enough to lead the Celtics. IT is scoring those points on 46.2 percent field goal shooting and 37.9 percent three-point shooting, both efficient numbers for a high-usage point guard.

The Celtics ball movement is going to be one danger for the Bucks defense to account for, but Thomas is a weapon in his own right.
