NBA Free Agency 2017 Player Profile: Ben McLemore

Fit With Bucks
Ben McLemore is interesting. Especially if Tony Snell does end up signing elsewhere (and the Bucks don’t end up matching the contract). McLemore isn’t the defender Snell is, but he could be one cost-controlled piece of a patchwork Snell replacement.

Despite all the negativity in this piece thus far, McLemore is absolutely worth a look this summer. He could end up still being a quality two-way player. Some young guys take longer to develop than others, and Sacramento hasn’t exactly been known for bringing the best out of young players.
Even without much improvement, a 38 percent three-point shooter has some inherent value. As with every NBA free agency target when talking about Milwaukee, though, the cost is the operative factor in a potential signing.
At league minimum, taking a chance on McLemore is a no-brainer. At any more than that, McLemore is potentially getting the Bucks into luxury tax territory, and also using up a valuable exception the team needs to sign anybody to more than minimum.

If Ben McLemore can’t find a market in NBA free agency, the Milwaukee Bucks would be smart to take a cheap flier on him. McLemore hasn’t shown enough to be worth much more than a minimum contract though, not for the Bucks at least.
