Milwaukee Bucks: Jordan Brady hired as Wisconsin Herd head coach

The search is over for a head coach for the Milwaukee Bucks’ G-League affiliate, the Wisconsin Herd, as Jordan Brady has been officially announced as the man in charge.

The Milwaukee Bucks will have their own minor league affiliate for the first time next season, and on Monday the team officially announced the man who will be tasked with coaching that team.

Jordan Brady has been announced as the first head coach of the Wisconsin Herd, via a statement on the Bucks’ website.

The Herd’s general Manager Dave Dean explained the appointment in that statement by saying:

"“The Wisconsin Herd is an important component in building a championship-caliber team in Milwaukee, and Jordan brings the grit, leadership and vision necessary to spark that process in Oshkosh. Jordan has the right experience and tools to develop young talent and build the foundation for a successful NBA G League team. We are excited to have him at the helm for the Herd in our inaugural season.”"

Brady, himself, had the following to say about the opportunity awaiting him in Oshkosh:

"“My family and I couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity to be a part of the Milwaukee Bucks and Wisconsin Herd family as well as the Oshkosh community. I look forward to working with Dave and the entire organization to build a successful team that is committed to developing young, talented players on and off the court.”"

While Brady won’t be a household name to Bucks fans who haven’t paid close attention to the NBA’s developmental league in recent seasons, he’s steeped with experience in that setting.

Brady played for three G-League (then D-League) teams as a player, before taking in assistant coaching spells at five different teams in the past five seasons. Most recently, Brady spent two years as an assistant coach for the Salt Lake City Stars (previously the Idaho Stampede), the Utah Jazz’s affiliate.

Wisconsin Herd president Steve Brandes spent 14 seasons as a part of that organization, so Brady’s appointment is a move that was likely made with some inside knowledge on the Herd’s part. Brady also briefly played for the Stampede during Brandes’ time at the helm prior to the Jazz’s purchase and relocation of that franchise to Utah.
