Despite being without key contributors, the Wisconsin Herd came away with a gritty victory over the Windy City Bulls to earn their fourth win of the season.

The good times keep rolling for the Wisconsin Herd as they defeated the Windy City Bulls 100-92 in their “home” opener at the BMO Harris Bradley Center on Friday night.

It was the Bulls who struck first, however, as they got off to a solid shooting start while the Herd were struggling to get off on the right foot out of the gate. Before long, the Herd started to find their rhythm on the offensive end to bring their deficit down to 1 by the end of the first period.

With both teams on equal footing, the majority of the second quarter was a back and forth affair as they traded buckets to keep within reach of one another.

That was the case until late in the period when the Bulls started to commit a number of turnovers, which the Herd capitalized on and helped them build their lead up to 11 going into halftime.

The Herd retained their form coming into the second half and led by as much as 17 just after the eight-minute mark of the third quarter.

But the Herd’s offensive effectiveness gradually wore off near the end of the period, which opened up a window for the Bulls to start staging a run of their own.

That came to fruition right at the start of the fourth as the Bulls peeled off a substantial run as the Herd committed a string of costly turnovers, both coughing up the ball and having a few warranted calls go against them.

As has been the case for most of their games this year, the Herd had to dig their heels in and hold off the Bulls late, a tough task without their leading scorer and lead playmaker in Xavier Munford.

While it certainly wasn’t pretty down the stretch, the Herd did just enough to back in and secure their fourth victory of the season and make their Wisconsin opener a success.
