The Wisconsin Herd continued to impress in their inaugural G League season, picking up a road win against the Grand Rapids Drive on Monday night.

As their parent team struggled to a loss in Boston, the Wisconsin Herd kept motoring along as they picked up a win over the Grand Rapids Drive on Monday night.

In spite of significant changes from the team that beat the Iowa Wolves in Oshkosh on Friday, the Herd effectively picked up where they left off by delivering a professional performance that included glittering contributions from two of the team’s stars.

With Gary Payton II, Joel Bolomboy, D.J. Wilson and Sterling Brown all back with the Bucks, and James Young sitting on the bench in street clothes as an inactive, Jordan Brady’s team had taken a major hit in the talent department.

Luckily, the Herd’s talent reserves run as deep as almost any team in the G League and Xavier Munford and Cliff Alexander proved more than capable of stepping up and leading the team to victory.

The Herd started well, even though they trailed by three points going into the second quarter. It was in that period that Wisconsin found another gear, though. Buoyed by an offensive explosion which included three straight triples from Xavier Munford, the Herd also locked in on defense to win the second quarter 32-12 and take a 17-point lead into half time.

Unsurprisingly, the Drive did make a run in the second half to close the gap, just as most teams seem to do in the G League.

As they have done throughout the season so far, the Herd remained unconcerned by their opponents, though, and focused on their own game to close out yet another win down the stretch.

The win moves the Herd to 8-3 as they embark on an incredibly busy week that will see them play on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Before they move on, let’s look at the key details from this win.
