Having led by as many as 18 points, the Wisconsin Herd had to hang on for a nail-biting one-point win over the Erie BayHawks.

As most fans of the team have come to expect by now, even in picking up a win on Saturday night, the Wisconsin Herd made things much more difficult for themselves than they needed to.

Having opened up a sizable lead, the Herd could then only look on as Josh Magette caught fire from distance during his own individual 21-point third quarter salvo.

That momentum carried over into the final period for the Erie BayHawks, as the 13-point lead the Herd had held at half time dissipated and Wisconsin even found themselves behind as the clock wound down.

In the end it took some solid defensive play and key free throws from Xavier Munford and JeQuan Lewis to close out the game for the Herd.

James Young led the way for Wisconsin with 28 points and 10 rebounds, Munford had 22 points, while Joel Bolomboy added 21 points and 11 rebounds too. Just as important, Wisconsin’s bench came up with a solid scoring night of their own as well.

With the win, the Herd finally overtook the Fort Wayne Mad Ants for the Central Division lead, moving up to third in the Eastern Conference in the process.

Let’s take a closer look at how exactly they achieved that and secured the win on Saturday night.
