The Wisconsin Herd suffered a wire-to-wire drubbing from the Grand Rapids Drive on Friday night, losing 142-100.

Friday night proved to be a season lowlight for the Wisconsin Herd as they were pasted by the Grands Rapid Drive, 142-100.

In their first game without one of their cornerstones of the season in James Young, who got swooped up by the Philadelphia 76ers on a two-way contract on Thursday evening, last night provided a good test for how the Herd would cope in the wake of his departure.

Unfortunately, it was a test that the Herd didn’t have any answers for, as not long from the opening jump, the Drive raced out of the gate and poured it on offensively. Already in a hole, the Herd spent the rest of the first quarter salvaging what they could to no avail as the Drive kept up their pace, capping it off with a buzzer-beating half court heave to lead 40-16 at the end of one.

The start of the second quarter provided the Herd’s brightest moments for the night as they applied increased defensive pressure and started to make the best of their scoring opportunities.

However, those rising good feelings were quickly dashed as the Drive caught fire once again and led 73-40 going into halftime.

Facing a deficit that enormous, it was all about reclaiming any respectability the Herd could get throughout the second half with the Drive clearly not going into cruise control.

The third quarter shaped up to be exactly that as the Herd picked up their offensive output, especially by making their way to the free throw line, and they ultimately outscored the Drive in the period 36-24 — the only quarter that went into the Herd’s favor.

But as it looked like the Herd had slowly whittled away at the gap, the Drive just picked it all back up again in the fourth and ultimately left the Herd with their worst loss on the season (and obviously, franchise history) once the final buzzer sounded.
