The second quarter saw both teams settle into the rhythm that would define the rest of the contest, with the Spurs doing enough to keep the lead in their possession and the Herd doing enough to not let the game spiral out of control.
Trailing by 5 coming out of halftime, the Herd vacillated between losing control of the rope completely and breathing down the Spurs’ neck all throughout the third before being down 72-66 going into the fourth.
Staring at a potential fourth straight loss, the Herd tighten things up and put their best foot forward minutes into the fourth, eventually breaking through to grab their first lead since the game’s opening minutes midway through the frame.
But the Spurs weren’t going down without a fight, setting up some tense several minutes as both teams traded buckets back and forth against each other. Being down by 5 with over two minutes to go, the Herd put the ball in the hands of their best players to help dig themselves out of their deficit.
It was Joel Bolomboy who closed the gap with a pair of back-to-back buckets in the game’s final minutes, while it was Xavier Munford who delivered the final blow by hitting a mid-range pull up jumper with 12.6 seconds left to go. With the Spurs unable to get off a good look in the final few seconds, the Herd closed out their stop at the Showcase on a high note.
