Wisconsin Herd duo Xavier Munford and Joel Bolomboy have been named to the Midseason All-NBA G League Team as a reward for their fine play in Oshkosh.

Although the Wisconsin Herd have hit a rough patch over the last month, the overall success of their inaugural season in existence shouldn’t be underestimated.

In spite of having won just two of their last 10 games — in the midst of the kind of significant roster change that good G League teams have to deal with — the Herd still boast a positive record of 17-16 on the season overall.

As some form of recognition for that impressive play, two of the Herd’s most important players were recognized when the G League released its Midseason All-NBA G League teams on Friday afternoon.

Xavier Munford and Joel Bolomboy, who have both also spent time as two-way players with the Milwaukee Bucks this season, were named to the Eastern Conference’s team, as was James Young, who played for the Herd until signing a two-way contract with the 76ers on January 5.

With two current players being named to the Eastern Conference team, the Herd matched the South Bay Lakers, Iowa Wolves, Texas Legends, Santa Cruz Warriors, Philadelphia 87ers and Maine Red Claws as teams with multiple selections.

The Midseason All-NBA G League Teams act as a replacement for what was the league’s old All-Star system, following recent changes to the formatting based on the involvement of G League players with Team USA.

As the official G League release explained:

"“With the first-ever NBA G League International Challenge replacing the traditional NBA G League All-Star Game this year, the NBA’s official minor league is recognizing its top performers by naming the Midseason All-NBA G League Teams.”"

Just as in years past, the teams were selected by the combined votes of G League coaches, players and executives.

For the G League season to date, Munford is averaging 23.2 points, 5.1 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 1.8 steals while shooting 52 percent from the field and 45.2 percent from deep. Bolomboy has also thrived with averages of 17.6 points, 10.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists while shooting 59.6 percent from the field.

Munford played for the Bucks on Thursday night in Minnesota, scoring his first two points for the NBA franchise, while earlier that day Bolomboy amassed 24 points and seven rebounds in the Herd’s win over the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.

Considering the Herd are currently two games back of the Central Division lead and one place outside of the Eastern Conference’s wildcard spots, Wisconsin will need both players to continue their good play if they’re to make the playoffs over their next 17 games.
