In the midst of their longest losing drought of the season, the Wisconsin Herd earned a rare win in 2018 as they neutralized the Long Island Nets in an overtime thriller on Friday night.

At long last, fans of the Wisconsin Herd can breathe a huge sigh of relief after the Milwaukee Bucks’ G League squad sealed a 115-109 victory in overtime over the Long Island Nets Friday night.

We got off to a fast start with both teams hitting from the field and beyond as soon as the opening tip got the game underway. That lasted until the Nets leapt out in front and led by as many as 11 points midway through the first.

However, the Herd wouldn’t stand for that much longer and closed out the period on a 13-5 run to trail 29-26 at the end of one, capped off by a buzzer-beating three by Ricky Ledo.

The Herd carried over that momentum in the second as they continued to close the gap and eventually grabbed their first substantial lead at the 8:09 mark of the quarter.

But roles reversed as the Herd couldn’t quite shake the Nets off their trail with Long Island breaking through to re-grab a two-point lead heading into halftime, thanks to a last second three by standout wing and Nets two-way player Milton Doyle.

The game got even more tightly contested throughout the third as both the Herd and the Nets met and matched each and every score with one of their own throughout the frame.

Tied at 83 with 12 minutes to go, the Herd saw an opportunity to race out in front of the Nets due to a mini 8-0 run from Joel Bolomboy and James Blackmon Jr. in the opening few minutes of the fourth. But the Nets answered back leading to them retaking the lead, which would later be traded frequently between both teams down the stretch.

Reaching do or die time, the Herd evened up the game at the 45-second mark of the period, thanks to Brandon Jennings knocking down a corner three. While he couldn’t quite seal the deal on the final possession of regulation following a Nets miss, Jennings did so in the two-minute overtime period as he put home all of the Herd’s six points in sudden death to ensure the victory.

Through all of the lead changes (20), times tied (17) and sporting only seven players available to play for the matchup, the Herd secured that evasive victory on Friday night, which has been a rare occurrence all throughout their 2018 so far.
