A disastrous run in the third quarter did in the Wisconsin Herd as they were thrashed by the Westchester Knicks on Saturday night at Menominee Nation Arena.
Hot off the heels of a deflating loss the previous night, the Wisconsin Herd were thrown the second of a 1-2 punch in regards to their slight playoff chances as they were bested by the Westchester Knicks on Saturday night, losing 124-103.
Sporting both of their two-way players as well as Milwaukee Bucks rookie D.J. Wilson as he was assigned to the team earlier in the day, both the Herd and the Knicks got off to rousing starts for the night. As tightly contested as the rest of the first quarter played out, it was the Knicks who held a 31-30 lead after one.
Despite the Knicks’ best effort to pull away and build up their lead, the Herd weren’t close to fading in their effectiveness throughout the second. But as much as that stood true for the period, the Knicks held a 61-54 lead going into halftime.

It was in the opening several minutes of the second half where the game flipped on its head in the Knicks’ favor.
Thanks to a fast start and the Herd struggling to find their first half form out of the break, the Knicks went on a 23-11 run to hold a 20-point lead by the 5:58 mark of the third.
Having lost their grasp of the game in what seemed like a blink of an eye, the Herd couldn’t recover for the remainder of the quarter, considering they were outscored 40-23 in the frame.
Trailing 101-77 with 12 minutes to go, all that was left for the Herd was to ride it out, not lose their cool (which boiled over a few times as they picked up four technical fouls for the night) and do what they could to salvage a silver lining in a night that spun of their control when it was all said and done.
With the loss, the Herd now stand 20-25 on the season with five games left to go in the year.
